I-Man Stupid Comments Brings Out Opportunists

It’s sad that a stupid, flippant remark by Don Imus has sent the world in a tail spin. Now I want to state right now that what Imus said was wrong and stupid! I do not condone his behavior last Wednesday. Imus has been pulling these stupid stunts all along but against everyone, not one group. This doesn’t make it right or trying to justify his actions, just trying to put it in context.

But I am amazed at the way the people want to string him up. Let’s look at the two opportunists: Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Sharpton and Jackson have said nothing short of his resignation will do.

Reverend Al, do you remember Tawana Brawley? It was 1987 and the story came out that Brawley was abducted by white law enforcement officers, raped and stuffed in a garbage bag where she was found 4 days later. Sharpton called then DA Steve Pagones a racist and a rapist among other things. Sharpton, along with Maddox and Mason were found guilty of defamation of character.

Now with Jesse, he’s always looking for something to latch onto. Always looking to support the oppressed and that is commendable. But should it be done everywhere? I don’t hear Reverend Jackson telling the record labels to drop the “Gangsta” rappers who are promoting violence in their songs, which in many cases is black on black crimes. And how many times have these artists use the “N” word in their songs? Where is the boycott here Reverend Jackson?

Why not turn this into something useful? Have IMUS start a scholarship at Rutgers. HE should sensitivity training (and bring Bernie too) and ordered to speak at the New York schools to explain what he did and why he is wrong. His show should now be used promote better race relations in this country. Imus has done a lot with his Kids with Cancer foundation, his helping getting the money for the Fallen Hero’s, Autism and Tomorrow’s Children. A lot of good can come out of this.

I’m surprised two men of the “cloth” want to cast many stones!
